Welcome to Bangor Blades

Bangor Blades has been in existence since 2004. Based in St. Columbanus College, Bangor we offer affordable, fun and exciting opportunities to learn the sport of fencing in N.Ireland. We are successful as well as maintaining an environment for all standards of fencing. From the fun, social fencer to Junior N.Ireland internationals we cater for everyone. With two coaches permanently we also have the Assistant National Coach (Sean Walton) once a month. This will enable coach development and also to progress our fencers to a higher competency.
Currently at the club we have the:- N.Ireland U.11 and N.Ireland U.13 Champion. The U.17 and N.Ireland No.1 Junior Female Foilist, Three of the top six U.17 boys in the club. Our Club President Sherraine Schalm (Canada) is No.4 in the World rankings. Former World No.1 Sherraine will be visiting the club in Nov/Dec 08 to host a training weekend.
We also have assessment for N.I.F.U. Fencing badges, Duke of Edinburgh awards and
also basic coaching qualifications. Bangor Coaches Peter Hazlett coach and also Northern Ireland Fencing Union Armourer. Jim Simpson Coach and Northern Ireland Fencing Union Schools Liaison Officer. Bangor Blades is also closely linked with Belfast Fencing Club, a club which will be coached by Sean Walton NI Coach. This is to be held on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm-10pm.
